Description
Tawaf Badal – Perform Tawaf on Behalf of Your Loved Ones
Tawaf Badal (طواف البدل) is the act of performing Tawaf around the Ka‘bah on behalf of someone unable to do so due to illness, age, or passing away. It is a noble act that brings immense reward to both the performer and the person represented, allowing your loved ones to share in the blessings of Makkah.
Meaning of Tawaf in Islam
“Tawaf” means circumambulating the Ka‘bah seven times in worship of Allah ﷻ. It is one of the most virtuous deeds in Islam, drawing mercy, forgiveness, and spiritual closeness to Allah.
Islamic Basis for Tawaf Badal
Qur’an:
“And purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who stand (in prayer) and those who bow and prostrate.”
— Surah Al-Hajj (22:26)
Hadith:
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه):
A woman said, “O Messenger of Allah, my mother vowed to perform Hajj but died before doing so. Shall I perform it on her behalf?”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Yes, perform Hajj on her behalf.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, 6699)
This hadith confirms the validity of performing acts of worship, such as Tawaf, on behalf of others when done sincerely.
